SUMMARY:Jens Bomer - German Renewable Energy Consultant
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Renewable Energy Meetup Group\n\nSeattle Renewable Ener
gy Kicks off their Fall 2008 Meeting Series with Berlin renewable energy co
nsultant Jens Bömer of Ecofys (www.ecofys.com).\n\nDuring his presentation
Jens will address:\n\nWhat is the German Aachen Model or the Full Cost Rate
s that recently influenced Washington State’s current solar legislation? \
nWhat are Germany’s Feed-in Tariffs that influenced Jay Inslee’s Renewable
Energy legislation? \nHow has Photovoltaic and Wind Power aggregation take
n off in Germany and other countries? \nWhat can we learn from Germany and
their experience? \nWhat technical challenges are related to the integrat
ion of renewable energies into our electricity networks and what services d
oes Ecofys provide related to them? \n\nHear first hand from Jens what thi
s could mean for citizens concerned about a clean and sustainable energy fu
ture.\nAlso we’ll take a brief video look at where we are in terms of Washi
ngton state’s Renewable Energy Portfolio standard.\n\nJens Bömer works part
-time as a Consultant in the Power Systems and Markets department at the Ec
ofys office in Berlin (www.ecofys.com). Ecofys is an internationally leadin
g consulting company on renewable energies\, energy efficiency and climate
change. Jens is responsible for power flow and dynamic grid studies and ma
nages several projects on innovations in electrical power systems. Due to h
is former work experience he has thorough knowledge about the intersection
between technical and political decision making.\nBefore Jens joined Ecofys
in September 2007\, he worked for two years as a consultant to the German
Environment Ministry and dealt with technical questions regarding the grid
integration of wind turbines and other renewable energies. He gained thorou
gh knowledge about the German Renewable Energy Resources Act (which turned
the Aachen Model nationwide in the year 2000). Eventually he was the Minis
try's main advisor for the regulations to improve the grid integration of w
ind turbines in the 2008 amendment of the German Renewable Energy Resources
Act. During his studies he spent six months at the University of Chile an
d worked in two projects for the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) that we
re related to the grid integration of wind energy into the Chilean intercon
nected system. During this period\, he proved his Spanish skills related to
technical terms and presentation style. This also helped him later at Ecof
ys in successfully managing a grid connection study for a small wind farm i
n Costa Rica\, including a field trip to the site. Related to the Spanish R
ES-E area\, he gained experience by supporting his colleagues in a small pr
oject on grid connection possibilities for offshore wind farms in the Medit
erranean Sea. \nJens holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Univers
ity of Dortmund where he specialised in power systems and renewable energie
 s. During his studies he contributed as a volunteer to the press relation w
ork of the local Greenpeace group of Dortmund. Recently\, Jens started work
ing on a PhD in electrical engineering at Technical University of Delft\, T
he Netherlands\, complementing his four-days-a-week part time job at Ecofys
.\n\nWe are very privileged to be able to host Jens at our meeting this mon
th. If you have ever wondered how we stack up against what is going on in
Europe this is an amazing opportunity to learn first hand\, and speak to an
expert. Please RSVP in advance so we can plan appropriately\, I anticipat
 e we'll have a big group for this meeting.\n\nSean\n\nSeattle\, WA 98104 -
