We now have Brandon Blevins to speak about wind feasibility.

Brandon's BIO:
Brandon Blevins joined the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy in March of 2007 as the Wind Program Coordinator. His responsibilities include coordinating the activities of the Tennessee Wind Working Group and working with a team to manage and operate Wind Powering America's Mid-Atlantic/Southeast Regional Wind Energy Institute (RWEI), a group that works to provide a toolkit for wind working group leaders throughout the region.

Before arriving at SACE, Brandon attended the University of Tennessee where he participated in numerous University programs, including a National Student Exchange semester in Hilo, HI in 2005. Inspired to bring wind energy to the Southeast, Brandon sought out SACE as a volunteer in December of 2005, and became a part-time employee in February of 2006. In addition to his wind energy focus, he published A Homeowner's Guide to Clean and Efficient Energy in East Tennessee, a project funded by the Alcoa Foundation in the summer of 2006

Stemming from Mars Hill, NC, Brandon has always called the Southeast his home. Graduating with a B.A. In Environmental Studies in 2006, Brandon plans to continue his pursuit to remove the obstacles to wind energy development in the region while pursuing his Master's in Geography at the University of Tennessee.

This Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 @ 7pm Please follow the directions on the attached for webinar and conference calling info.

We had a great meeting on net metering in May. Thanks to Ben Moore and Libby Smith for sharing their insight. This will be a topic that comes up again.

June 18, 2008 will be a meeting on WVO or Waste Vegetable Oil vehicles.

Biodiesel often gets confused with WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil) and SVO (Straight vegetable oil). Biodiesel is a fuel that is made from either vegetable oil or animal fat that has gone through a process that makes it compatible with most diesel vehicles with little or no modification to the vehicle. The panel discussion at our next meeting will consist of 3 gentlemen who collect waste vegetable oil directly from restaurants and use it in their vehicles. They have a lot of information to share and we are excited to have them at our next meeting.

RANDY HOLTON has been running his 1983 Mercedes on waste vegetable oil for almost 5 years. He has been a pioneer in the WVO movement locally and is often sought out for advice from newcomers to the community.

LEON GRIFFIN is a mechanical engineer with 10 years of product development experience for North American Truck Manufacturers. He has designed his own conversion kit to run his 2001 F350 on waste vegetable oil and has his own filtration and collection system. He runs a website and online forum at wvodesign.com.

ANDY COHEN is owner of FryRight Inc. (a business that cleans, filters and collects oil for numerous restuarants in the Charleston Area). He has a science background and 11 years teaching experience . He is currently researching ways to collect large quantities of oil that have a consistent quality for various applications.

Do not wait....go to www.gogreencharleston.org right now and hit the "discussions". Once you have signed up with a user name and password, start posting questions and comments right away. This will give us an idea of what you are interested at the meeting.

Look forward to seeing you all in room 112 at the Hollings Science Building on Coming St. at the College of Charleston on June 18, 2008 at 7pm!

Hello everyone
Thanks to all who attended the Alternative Energy forum in April. We had a very informative session on Solar energy and products available in South Carolina from Chapman Lucas. There seems to a growing interest and opportunity in the solar energy in our state. Education will help to increase demand and availability of products as is the case with many of the new technologies.

NEXT MEETING MAY 21st2008 "NET METERING"

Net Metering may provide great opportunities and incentives for people who take the steps to generate their own power from renewable resources to sell kilowatts back to the utilities. This may also increase the opportunities for entrepreneurs involved in renewable energy products and services. 39 states have adopted net metering. A hearing for public comment on net metering in South Carolina was just held in Columbia this Tuesday. This is an important topic for those that are interested in Alternative Energy.

Ben Moore, Charlie Sneed and/or Libby Smith have agreed to participate in a panel discussion on the subject of Net Metering and other clean energy policies in South Carolina.

Ben Moore is Climate and Energy Program Director for the Coastal Conservation League and is very familiar with environmental policies in our state.

Libby Smith and Charlie Sneed have been deeply involved with the movement for net metering in South Carolina after installing solar panels on their personal residents.

This will be a meeting you don't want to miss!

Go to gogreencharleston.org and register for the discussion board on Alternative Energy. Post your questions and comments on this subject and for future meetings.

Continue the discussions and networking at the Mellow Mushroom at 8pm after the forum.

We look forward to seeing you there!
