Well, today I'm one step closer to net zero metering. I've rebuilt my five solar panels and added a sixth. These are home built panels from cells I picked up off eBay several years ago. The cost of each panel is a little over $100.00 including glass. Output is about 2amp at 19v. I could buy panels but this is kind of a hobby and I enjoy building my own stuff. I'm generating about 1.55 amps back into the house (that's at 120volt/AC). Not a lot but I have 18 more panels going up as time permits me to build them. The house uses a little over 40 watts idle during the week day when I'm at work (not including the AC or refrigerator). So I'm generating more than it uses. I've got some wire cleanup to do but everything is working right now. Six more panels and I'll be able to hook up my Sunny Boy inverter and sell back to the utility company. Thanks to Rick for pointing out Green Mountain Energy's plan is already in place to do this. Bye bye YEP Energy. They still haven't responded to my inquiry after it was escalated to upper management several weeks ago. Nice customer service there and their lack of prep for the switch to smart meters!
