Tour attendees were able to check out The Children’s Museum, The Solar trees at UCSD, Alvarado Water Treatment Facility and The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ (IBEW) Solar installation.

IBEW, is a labor organization that represents electricians who work in electrical construction, maintenance, service, telecommunication audio visual, fire alarm, photovoltaic’s and any form of renewable energy.
“It is important to us to show our commitment to the community that we will provide qualified electricians and have the ability to perform the installation of the latest in technology to secure San Diego’s energy future,” said IBEW president Patrick Knighton.

IBEW has installed 163.5kw on their facilities.

“San Diego’s leadership needs to make a commitment to the community,” said Knighton.
“We need to engage the residents to get excited about renewable energy and take ownership of their future.”

    •  It was a great tour. At the Siliken solar factory we saw what it takes to put a solar panel together. Later we went to to commercial solar site that were truly extraordinary. The tour consisted of two buses with loads of people in the sustainable energy business and those just getting in. There was plenty to learn and absorb.
    •  I was there just as an interested party, and I thought it was very interesting. It got a little technical at times, but I felt included most of the time. The lunch seemed packaging-intense. I wonder if there was a plan to recycle the large boxes the food came in.
