This meetup will feature a presentation arranged by the Portland Permaculture Meetup, and will be a joint gathering of that meetup with the Portland Oil Awareness Meetup and ours. It will feature guest speaker Pat Coon who is the owner (along with his wife Wynn) of Energy Works LLC. They are experts in designing and installing solar systems here in Maine and are in the process of opening up a branch in the Portland area. We will hear about available technology, costs, incentives, etc. for SOLAR HOT WATER SYSTEMS for your home.

We will meet at 6:30 for potluck dinner at Zero Station gallery, followed by the presentation for about 45-60 minutes starting around 7:00 or 7:15. We should be able to open it up to discussion and questions around 8:00 or shortly thereafter.

Since this event is being hosted by the Permaculture Meetup, please RSVP TO THEM at http://permaculture.meetup.com/58/calendar/5189248/. (You will have to become a member of their group to RSVP.)

For our first meetup, I want to just make it social and get to know each other. We should discuss why we joined the group, what we are looking to get out of it, and set a tentative direction for the next few meetings. Several of you have already indicated an interest in presenting, which is great.

I would like to meet in Westbrook, both because it's a little more central to the area than Portland, and selfishly, it's where I live. Since our first meeting is mostly sociable, I propose we meet at Chicky's Fine Diner in Westbrook. We'll have to meet early, hence the 5 PM start time, because they have live music starting between 7 and 7:30, an added bonus if you're into that (as I am). Maybe we can all contribute to a couple of appetizers, or you can buy yourself supper if you wish. (The food is great!) The owner, Chicky, is interested in the group, primarily because he has been thinking about creating biofuel from his fryolater grease.

For subsequent meetings, though, we will have to find a less noisy place where we can have presentations and hear ourselves better. I'd love to meet in the old Dana mill nearby on the river, which is also the site of an old hydroelectric dam. Anyone have any contacts at a business there?

Hope to meet you all there!
