Justine;
Do you mean a 'Stage Coach' with a Four-in Hand Band of Bikers? (With a fringe on top, and Isinglass windows you can roll-right-down?) or 'The world is but a Stage, and the men and women merely peddlers?' Sorry, I'm in a silly mood. Anyway, sounds intriguing. Say more. I've been sketching out a "bikers bus", with a dozen seats and as many cranks, but also have an exercise bike in my shop which will drive both a lathe OR a generator.. or other tools. Howdy, all,
Sorry you don't see me around here much. I'm pretty much flat out organizing the Bicycle Commuting Meetup. I saw a video some months back about how part of the Super Bowl half-time show was powered by a bank of stationary cyclists generating power that was stored up in batteries until it was needed. I don't know where that page is now, but a search turned up this blog entry about AmeriCares having received the bicycles afterwards. It was publicity for Amp energy drink, which is owned by Pepsi. I wonder if that is the kind of thing Justine is referring to, as in powering a theater's light board and sound system by cycle power. So are you two members of my Bicycle Commuting Meetup? Bob, I've got another member who is into designing electric assists, and there is also Ethan in Biddeford who does velomobiles and other human-powered vehicles. He helps put on the "EletroVelo Rally" at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway every year, which just took place last weekend. Maybe sometime I'll have a meeting devoted to demos and discussion of other kinds of human-powered transportation and systems. Would you be interested in participating? |

Hi John and Everyone;
Before I forget, here's a link to another 'Pedal-powered Stage' that I think Bendzela linked a few months ago. It's a Peak-oil film, very funny and informative, but I (Strongly) suspect that the bikes are not, in fact, running the show. Merely showpieces, but to good effect. Robert Newmans History of Oil http://video.google.c... DO WATCH THIS.. it's fabulous! I was sorry that I missed the Velo Rally. Just found the ad for it as I packed up to go to a job in Vegas for 2wks. Boy could I use a bike out here! I'm looking to build a velo, and will try to make contact with these guys. What is the status of work on Portland Traffic Policy, if any, to make bike and NEV/ZEV commuting-transport more possible? Is this where the bike group is focusing right now? Best from the Plastic Ghost-town, Bob |

(comment about 'Bikes running show' was said in silliness, of course)
