Hi,

I wanted to share with everyone in this group (I just joined a little while ago) some info on another group that you might really enjoy checking out. I was recently recruited to help my friends parents "work on their permaculture garden." We ended up talking about a lot more than just gardening and made the decision to work together to start a Transition Initiative movement in Portland. The main idea of a transition initiative, or transition town (http://www.transition..., is to respond proactively & locally to the demands of peak oil & global climate change. Some key themes to our efforts lie in utilizing local resources, promoting local business & food, and promoting diversity within our community--all in the hopes to create a local community that is very resilient to energy, food, economic (and so forth) changes that occur outside our community (yet still affect us). Alternative energy is a cornerstone theme of the movement we're promoting, so I thought you girls and guys might be interested in checking out the scene.

There is an article from theChristian Science Monitor that was recently published about Transition Towns that includes some interviewing with one of our members, Pat Proulx-Lough at: http://features.csmon...

Any interest you have is greatly appreciated & your enthusiasm would be great to have!

Thanks for checking it out,

Matt
