Meeting Agenda:
The theme for the next meeting will be electricity.
(1) John Howell will start with an overview of the electric transmission and distribution grid;

(2) Bill Chapman, an engineering grad of CalTech, will show maps of the best terrain for solar, wind, and geothermal around the country as compared to maps showing what people pay for power. Bill will show costs per kWh of various sources of energy. Finally, there will be some calculations on high voltage versus low voltage transmission.

(3) Norman Rosner will then speak on a Con Edison program that helps businesses save money and use less energy on lighting, HVAC, chillers, elevator motors, etc. and show the payout is faster, easier, and larger than equivalent NYSERDA programs. Norman's company administers the Con Ed program in lower Manhattan.

Breakout Session:
There will be a focused session on energy modeling. We'll work through some examples. We hope to make it substantive. Time and place to be announced. This will be free.

Hello Everybody,

We're lucky to have two different presenters on energy efficiency. This is an important subject, and it's good to get different points of view. This should be very informative. Remember the cheapest watt of energy is the watt you don't use.

(5) Tom Sahagian of Power Concepts will also discuss energy audits. Power Concepts is a NYSERDA partner.

by Henry Gifford, an experienced and well known building engineer. Henry will analyze the weaknesses of the LEED system and present alternatives. Saving building energy is vital for our weakening economy, and this can only be done if we measure the results accurately.

Hello Everybody,
We'll meet tomorrow evening at COSI restaurant. Several people asked what they can do to save energy (and money) which led to a new series of topics on what you can do to save energy. We'll start with saving electricity in your home or apartment. Bring your ideas and share.

In future, we plan to continue the topic of personally saving energy while still inviting outside speakers to present on various subjects related to alternative energy and energy conservation.
